We are looking for one or two or three interns for 12-20 hours per week each.
We are flexible on dates/times.
This is a “non-salary” position, but we do pay at $500 stipend at the end of a 12-week internship and $400 for a 10-week commitment.
We work with students if they need college credit. We would also take them to PRSA meetings (our treat).

Communicate with our intern coordinator, Katie Carmichael, to be considered.
Her email is katie@wallerpr.com <mailto:katie@wallerpr.com> .

Dates of services are approximately Oct. 1 through Jan. 1 (we can work with a student if the holiday break is a challenge).

PRSSA Members help make MS Walk a success September 25, 2009

Thanks to the MS Walk Committee for doing a great job getting donations and helping at the Walk! The Walk was a HUGE success on Saturday. It had great attendance and we’re pretty sure we helped the MS Society pass its fundraising goal of $5,000! We think they got near $7,000 – which is AWESOME! The goodie bag and door prize items were a big hit– thanks again for all your hard work and for taking time out of your busy schedules to help people suffering from MS. The participants really appreciated it and so did your PRSSA officers

Shadow Day Experience by Celeste Cash September 23, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — osuprssa @ 12:55 pm

I recently attended the OKC PRSA chapter’s Shadow Day in Oklahoma City. Shadow Day is a great concept, and I found the day to be very informative and fun.

I was assigned to shadow a PR professional named Tabbi VanHoutte, who works at Allegiance Credit Union. I will be honest, at first I was a bit disappointed to be going to a credit union, because one thing I have always known is I don’t want to work in the financial industry. My father was a bank president, and I hated working at his bank in the summers! Regardless, I tried to convince myself it would be a valuable experience, and I couldn’t have been more right!

I had a great time shadowing Tabbi, and learned so much from her. It was actually a bit overwhelming because she had so much great advice and experience to share with myself and the other girl who was shadowing. She has only been at the credit union for about a year, and it is her third job in the PR industry. Since she has worked in other areas, I felt that I got a well rounded look at what my future could hold. She described how she arrived at the job she has now, and all that she has learned along the way. She also described what her job entails, and I must say it looks like a lot of fun! She is the Electronic Marketing Specialist and is in charge of all of the credit union’s social media, occasionally designs materials they hand out, as well as many other things. She made the remark that she enjoys the job because it is something different everyday, which I was happy to hear because this is one of the main reasons I am in PR. I hate routine, and hope for a job that is constantly changing and challenging me.

After we spent the morning shadowing Tabbi, we went to the Bricktown Brewery for the monthly PRSA luncheon. There were quite a few OSU students there, which I was happy to see. It was a great time for networking, and I actually made a couple of contacts that I feel will be very helpful in the future. All of the professionals were very friendly and seemed happy to have us at their meeting. There was a panel discussion on ethics in PR, and it was very interesting and informative, since this is something we all know we will be dealing with in our professional lives.

Overall, I thought it was definitely worth my time. I learned a lot, and am even more excited now to graduate and get out into the “real world”. PR is a great field to be in, and the possibilities are endless when it comes to what you want to do. I highly suggest that every PRSSA member take advantage of the opportunity next year. You won’t regret it.

Oklahomans for Responsible Government is proud to announce the start of an internship program that will offer college students the opportunity to work in several areas including communications, research and governmental relations.

“I was fortunate to be able to serve as an intern at the State Capitol during college, so I know how much it can help a student put what they’re learning into practice,” said Brian Downs, OFRG Executive Director.

Applications will be accepted through November 15thfor the first internship period which will run from January 15th through May 15th which includes most of the next legislative session. Two internships will be awarded with the winners notified by December 1st. Application forms are being sent to area universities and are also available online at www.ofrg.org <http://www.ofrg.org/> .

“The work we do at OFRG spans a wide range of interest for college students,” said Downs, “and our small staff means that interns will benefit directly from our experience in public relations, communications and state government policy.”

OFRG plans on having three internship periods per year, coinciding with the spring and fall semesters and the summer break.

Advice from our “Marketing Yourself” Panelists January 29, 2009

· Set aside one hour a day to job search, beginning now if you graduate in May – use the PRSA Web site to help you search. Your job is finding a job! Those most persistent will find the best jobs.

· Get your portfolio in order now! Make digital copies as well as a hard copy and keep updating as you gain more experience.

· Pretend as if you’re getting a grade on your cover letters and resumes. Make sure there are NO spelling/grammar mistakes.

· Take another internship if you can’t find a job.

· Volunteer for a non-profit organization to fill your resume – it’s better than just sitting at home and it helps with networking.

· Go to PRSA meetings in the city of your choice – you’ll have a discounted membership when you graduate and it’s a great networking opportunity.

· Having a job helps you get another job. So, you may not be able to be picky. Take what you get and make the most of it while also searching for your dream job.

· Enroll in a graduate program and take one class per semester. The classes are almost always at night and taking a graduate class will give you an edge.

Bonnie shared a recap of the meeting and her answers to your questions on her blog.  Check out Bonnie’s advice at There’s Only Ever One Bonnie.

Again, a special thanks to Becky Endicott, Gina Noble and Bonnie Ann Cain.
